There are many benefits on being a blogger. One of my favorite things is being able to discover brands that I never knew existed. I was excited when the company ‘Who Gives a Crap’ contacted me. This company sells 100% recycled toilet paper and they use 50% of their profit to build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.
I think it’s important to know what is in our toilet paper and if it’s safe for the environment.
Who Gives a Crap was founded by three men in Melbourne, Australia in 2012. They created this brand because they learned that 2.5 billion people (1 in 3 people) in the world do not have access to a toilet. Not having a toilet leads to sanitation problems which can cause serious illness which means people can’t go to work to feed their families or go to school.
The brand first started in July 2012 with a crowdfunding campaign. One of the founders, Simon sat on a toilet in a warehouse and refuses to get up until they raised enough pre-orders to start production. He sat on the toilet for 50 hours and raised over $50,000….. Who Gives A Crap delivered their first product in March 2013.
All their toilet paper, paper towels and tissues are forest friendly. Half of their profit is donated to Who Gives A Crap charity partners so they can continue to build toilets and improve sanitation in developing countries.
Who Gives A Crap sells online – directly to their customers. They also offer a subscription service so their customers never have to worry about running out of toilet paper again. Their toilet paper is sometimes less than half the price of some of the biggest retail brands.
Lastly, Who Gives A Crap is a profit-for-purpose business – they’re driven by their mission to make sure everyone in the world has access to a toilet. To date, Who Gives A Crap has donated a total of $1.2m Australia dollars (that’s the equivalent of over $950,000!) to their charity partners such as WaterAid,Sanergy, Shining Hope for Communities and Lwala Community Alliance.
To start, the delivery of my box of toilet paper was like something I never got before. Written in big bold letters on the box says ‘Who Gives A Crap’ and on the side it says ‘You’ve Got A Nice Bum.’ I think that all together is brilliant. The box steps out of the traditional branding and breaks some rules – which I love.
When I opened the box, the contents looked like a ton of beautifully wrapped birthday presents. Great for me since my birthday is in another four months! The wrappers that wrap the toilet paper are stunning. They make a cute decor piece in your bathroom.
The toilet paper is quite thick so you only need to use a little bit of it. The tearing of the paper is kind of hard to take off for me it always rips. The softness of this toilet paper is great and feels comfortable. I definitely recommend this toilet paper not just for the comfort factor, but because purchasing this will help someone in need and the environment!
